MAHILA PANCHAYAT

SPOWAC was actively involved with the project for more than 10 years which is now discontinued.

We have set up our Mahila Panchayat in Sector 1, Dwarka where we council the numerous cases of domestic violence cases against women, and go door-to-door asking all the women to not be afraid from voicing their concerns

Objective: 
- To provide counselling to women suffering from domestic violence and spread awareness regarding the presence of the Mahila Helpline number so that they can voice their concerns.
- Areas Covered: 12 sectors/localities under the jurisdiction of Sector 9 Police Station. Villages like Palam and Bagdola are covered.

On average, 8-10 cases are investigated and reconciled per month

This activity is a project supported and funded by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). The activities are conducted in both the centers in Pahar Ganj and at sec-1 Dwarka. The activities of Mahila Panchayat includes:

Formation of Mahila Panchayat: Selected women from the catchment area are invited to voluntarily form a women collective group which meets once a week and the problems faced by women in their areas are discussed and solutions found. The members are given training on various legal topics pertaining to social causes and their remedies. The idea behind formation of women collective is to equip these ladies solve the day to day issues on their own and bring larger cases to be dealt at the NGO level.

The paid staff of Mahila Panchayat comprising of one coordinator and 4 field staffs are given adequate training both by DCW and SPOWAC to effectively handle cases pertaining to women’s issues.

The work of the staff includes case visits, making applications, accompanying victims to appropriate forums such as police stations, women’s cell, DCW, courts and so on.The staff is also involved in other activities when a women comes to the centre in need of such help for herself and her family members. Normally the staff spends lot of time in accompanying the client to government offices to redress their problems.

Reporting forms an integral part of the program where day to day activities are summarized and sent to DCW. Weekly and monthly reports with photographs are also submitted.Daily visits are made in the catchment area to spread awareness on our activities and educate the masses in general. Small as well as large gatherings are held to achieve this purpose. Many cases are dealt at the NGO level by way of counseling and reconciliation.

SPOWAC has 14 Mahila Panchayat members who are very active in that area and have created an impact and have been instrumental in bringing down the crime against Women under the jurdiction of Sec 9, Police Station which covers a radius of 9KM.On an average a case is investigated and reconciled every day. During this year MP received over 800 cases of all kinds.

SPOWACc was granted the second Mahila Panchayat in central district of delhi from 1/2/2019. In a span of just 11months Spowac made a niche for itself by getting over 500 cases for redressal of their problems by many women of central district of delhi

Spowac during the past financial year 20-21 has done considerable work with Delhi Commission for Women and took part in all their activities may it be padyatra, rally or participation in Women’s day function.

RAPE ROKO ANDOLAN

With the fact that the rate at which girls are being raped in our society is increasing everyday, NGOs all around Delhi sought to form a human chain around Central Park and protest such happenings, demanding justice at the same time. We were one of the many NGOs dedicated to this cause

Objective: 
- To sensitize the public at large regarding the atrocities happening on women of all ages.
- Conducted around Central Park on 8th March, 2018 - International Women's Day.
- 500,000 was the count of the overall participants.

SPOWAC generated 4000 signatories for the cause

STREE SHAKTI YOJANA

Educating a woman about her rights is empowering her. At SPOWAC, we strongly believe this message and wish to create independent girls who are aware that they have the right to command an equal footing in her household and in the society. 

Objective: 
- To empower each and every woman in the community to achieve her fullest potential and lead a healthy and respectful life.
- Issues arising out of gender discrimination, woman empowerment, and information dissemination on vocational skills training. Community participation is also encouraged.

KISHORI SHAKTI YOJANA

In order to empower the girl child and reduce any activities troubling them at a young age, we have implemented this program

Objective: 
- To sensitize the girls regarding reproductive issues, reduce anaemia among girls, and impart vocational training to the girls to increase self-reliance.
- Vocational training stretches for 60 days.
- Targets unmarried girls aged 11-18 years belonging to BPL families.

So far, 240 young girls have benefitted from this program

PROJECT: AWAAZ UTHAO

Wanting women to raise their voices against any form of atrocities, we introduced the Awaaz Uthao program where we conduct various activities along with Samajik Suvidha Sangam which is our implementation agency for this program

Objective: 
- To address safety issues of women and children who are subject to domestic abuse and are afraid from voicing their concerns.
- Formation of women’s collectives at grassroot levels are encouraged to discuss the issues of sexual harassment, assault and rape – issues which are not discussed about often in the open.

So far, about 2800 people have participated in this program

NCW - VATSALYA MELA

Strongly committed to the cause of reducing discrimination among women, we conduct Vatsalya Mela on a regular basis.

Objective: 
- Campaign to spread awareness on malnutrition, declining sex ratio and the empowerment of adolescent girls.
- Slogans and Painting competitions are held in this mela.
- Woman delivering girl children are also honoured and given gifts.

So far, 150 girls have been the beneficiaries of this mela

 Relevant topics are chosen for school and college students and the messages are driven home using audio visuals, poster competition, debates, elocution and talks.

Self Defence Training for Girls

This is an ongoing activity with the Delhi Police in training girls to equip themselves in self-defence in case of need.
